Societal transformation needs political guidance, financial support from public funding and committed nongovernmental initiatives. The increase in cycle traffic is both the herald of a change in mobility as well as its most important component. This megatrend is also supported by the Cycle Competence Austria members from the fields of public administration and NGO.
The ministry for quality of life in Austria (BMLFUW) is promoting every-day cycling with the programmes of klimaaktiv mobil. It has also published the master plan cycle traffic making an effective contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

As advocacy for Austria’s every-day cyclists Radlobby Österreich is focusing on motivation campaigns, developing cycle course concepts and has initiated the establishment of the platform “Cycle Competence Austria”.
