The platform CycleCompetence Austria has 17 member companies and institutions. Here is a brief overview of news from some of the members: The BMLFUW has published a new master plan cycling, AIT presented the CycleTripMap at the research festival in Vienna, HERRY Consult informs about the projects “ACTIV8!” and “e-park&drive”, the e-bike-rental concept by KALOVEO gets more and more popular and the Radlobby Vienna published its guidelines for good cycling infrastructure.
Already at the Austrian cycling summit in Klagenfurt the BMLFUW, the ministry for quality of life in Austria, presented the new cycle traffic master plan 2015-2025 as a draft. Now the final version is available in German and English. It is setting an ambitious course in all important fields of action for cycle traffic in Austria over the next decade: Find all details here and here you can get straight to the download.
The guidelines cycling infrastructure of Radlobby Vienna, published in September are also pointing the way and are defining minimum requirements for future-proof cycling traffic. The main statement: “Cycle traffic planning is supply planning for a continuously growing number of cycling road users. To be able to face this challenge also in the future decisions in traffic planning and traffic policy have to aim for a high quality of cycling infrastructure for all user groups.” From this Radlobby is also deducing substantial budgetary requirements: “Budget and human resources for cycling traffic measures in municipalities have to be adapted to the political aims for cycling traffic. In order to set up an attractive cycle traffic design a budget of at least 30 Euros per citizen and year is necessary.” Find all ten of the guidelines here.
This is supported by Markus Straub at the CycleCompetence member AIT: “With traffic planning it has to be kept in mind that it is a supply planning. Infrastructure has to be useable intuitively and for all age groups. One model example is the municipality Wolfurt which has won the VCÖ mobility price 2015 for re-designing its traffic organisation. The encounter zones as well as the well-conceived road network for cyclists are in line with these two major points.”
KALOVEO, the high-quality Austrian e-bike rental concept, also aims for the right fit in its offerings. The reason for its growth is the consistent focus on quality – as the tourism association St. Anton/Arlberg confirms: “The best thing we ever introduced in summer were the e-bike tours with KALOVEO!”
HERRY Consult has exciting projects to show for itself: In the research project “ACTIV8!” a consortium of experts is taking a holistic approach to active mobility to derive specific and promising packages of measures. ACTIV8! is consistently linking the importance of regional and local pedestrian and cycle traffic to applicable influencing factors. The aim is to create planning tools for the federal state, the provinces and municipalities to develop tailored measures in the field of cycling and pedestrian traffic.
In the pilot project “e-park&drive” HERRY Consult together with oemobil, GW St. Pölten Integrative Betriebe and ecoplus are working on introducing e-bikes as linking means of transport to existing park&drive facilities in the model region “e-commuters in lower austria” Five test persons were chosen. They were given both a bike parking box and an e-bike each for free for one year. We are looking forward to seeing the results!
