International Velo-city conference in Lisbon

The world’s most influential cycle-planning conference is set to take place this year once again, after cancellation in 2020 due to the Covid-19 virus. Cycle planning experts will meet under the slogan: “Cycle Diversity” between the 6th and 9th of September either personally in Lisbon, or via weblink. Our platform Cycle Competence Austria is also taking part with presentations and a networking bike tour on the river Tejo and will report via Twitter.

The 750 cycling experts present will tackle the subject on all levels: “from bike sharing to transport equity, Velo-city 2021 Lisboa will dive into all areas of cycling mobility.” This is demonstrated by the diversity of the mayors and cycling experts from all over the world on the opening panel for Monday the 6th of September:

We are sharing the stage with other Cycling Embassies, most notably with our colleagues from the Dutch Cycling Embassy and the Cycling Embassy of Denmark. At 11:00 on the 7th of September, Cycle Competence coordinator Alec Hager will present our work on the garden stage. Also on the 7th of September, Andreas Friedwagner from Cycle Competence member Verracon will present “The route to cycle tourism success” online at 14:30 to give insight into the EU project the “Danube Cycling Plan”. Cycle Competence member Bike Citizens will be represented in the exhibition area.

To conclude the event, we are holding a networking bike ride in cooperation with local Portuguese NGOs MUBI and Bicicultura on the 9th of September to Miradouro Panorâmico de Monsanto to discuss current challenges in cycling “from Lisbon to Budapest” with stunning views over the city.
