Three new members with specialities in orientation, planning and multi-use bikes
Radkompetenz Austria is pleased to welcome its three newest members in the sectors of navigation, bike production and traffic planning: Max2 – sign and design provide planning and signage for cycle routes, GLEAM Technologies produce hi-tech cargo bikes in Vienna and Traffic engineers Besch & Partner have been established for decades at their base in Vorarlberg, working nationwide.
60km of bike route signage in Tirol
Max2 GmbH is a creative design and planing agency from Innsbruck who provide innovative orientation and guidence solutions for clients in the tourism and public sectors. One of their most celebrated projects is 60km of north-south and east-west axial cycle routes in the municipalities of Hall, Absam, Mils, Rum and Thaur in Tirol.
The ten routes are the region’s answer to the recent bike-boom and create a comprehensive network of five vertical and five horizontal axial routes. The project has been used to further develop the ‘Tirolean Handbook for Cycle-Route Signage’ with particular focus on every-day use. The creation of the cycle network began with analysis by experts from Max2 who drafted the first rough route-map, followed by a thorough screening of the entire region accounting for all relevant cycling and tourism factors. Using traffic planning principles, the exact routes were then defined and subdivided into main and neigbouring axes. The routes have also been digitally integrated into Austria’s ‘Geographic Information System’, a highly detailed nationwide digital traffic administration and mapping system, which allows the cycle routes to be used by navigation systems.
GLEAM – The flexible, leaning work bike
The Viennese company GLEAM Technologies GmbH is revolutionising mobility with its own category: multi-use bikes. They offer a flexible transport solution for every situation. Using the FLEX Fast Lock Extension System, the cargo bed can be adapted in seconds, optimising the bike for either commercial or private use. Another unique aspect of the GLEAM bike is its dynamic leaning technology, which keeps goods level and smooths many of the bumps in the road. In extra special news, GLEAM has just moved their production to Vienna!
GLEAM Bikes has always been committed to the regional production of their multi-use bikes, which is why their in-house production is opening in the capital in March 2022. The dynamic e-bikes will thus be “Made in Austria” and delivered to customers far and wide. Not only will the local economy profit from the creation of new jobs, but Austria’s capital Vienna will become ‘GLEAM City’ and be at the centre of the transport revolution. If you would like to test-ride the innovative new leaning bike and see it in the flesh, you can book a personal appointment with GLEAM here.
Regional high-speed cycle connection with tunnel
Traffic engineers Besch & Partner used variation and feasibility studies to draft all of the potential solutions for connecting the regions of Vorderland and Amkumma in Vorarlberg. They analysed and assessed each suggestion in terms of how well it solved the problem of crossing the Sattelberg. A planning concept for the chosen solution is currently being prepared – a high-speed cycle tunnel accompanying the railway directly through the Sattelberg. We have already reported on this project, and the involvement of a Radkompetenz founding-member here.
