Sharing with cargo bike garages, washing stations and award-winning bikes

Our roundup of exciting products from our members takes us from Leonding to Frankfurt via the Innkreis region! In Upper Austria, cargobike sharing has been taken to the next level with bike distribution garages. Meanwhile, VELLO won an award for its SUB cargobike at the Eurobike European bicycle trade fair in Frankfurt. KTM also presented its new products there. WINTERSTEIGER installed the Velobrush Smart bicycle washing machine for the first time in Ried im Innkreis, and Velovio introduced the KONA mobile canopy for its Salzburg bicycle racks.
A clean affair: WINTERSTEIGER tested Velobrush Smart in Ried
For a few weeks this summer, everything in Ried im Innkreis revolved around clean bikes: WINTERSTEIGER installed a self-service bike washing machine for the first time, right next to a petrol station, in the middle of everyday life for cyclists.
The Velobrush Smart enables quick and thorough cleaning of bicycles. It is the kind of service one would wish for in any bicycle-friendly city. After completing the test phase, WINTERSTEIGER is convinced that such services can be an important building block for future-oriented mobility in liveable cities. The pilot project was a first step towards making cycling not only more practical but also more comfortable. The interest was palpable, and the vision is clear: WINTERSTEIGER believes in the potential of urban bicycle care. For the future, the company is examining which cities would be suitable for a permanent installation of this service.
Here’s how it works: select a wash programme and pay with your debit card, mobile phone, or smartwatch. Then the door opens and the sled on which the bicycle is placed can be pulled out. Even heavier models can be placed on the sled effortlessly using the ramp. The handlebar holder must be aligned so that the bracket is not blocked by any attachments on the handlebars. The handlebar holder is fixed in place with the foot switch. The sled is then pushed back into the machine and the door closed. The washing process can now be started via the touch display. Step-by-step instructions are shown on the display, so no prior knowledge is necessary.
Innovative transport bike sharing with radverteiler garages
Since September 2025, four new rental locations for e-cargobikes have been available in the Kürnbergwald climate and energy model region (KEM) around Leonding. In recent years, the municipality of Leonding has successfully tested radverteiler’s sharing system with ‘smart rental boxes’ (article here), and now the entire region is taking the next step: renting cargobikes in secure garages that can be opened via smartphone and are powered by solar panels.
The smart bicycle garage from radverteiler was designed as a maintenance-free component for a 24/7 bicycle rental service and is specially dimensioned for cargobikes. The garage protects the bicycles from adverse weather conditions and unauthorised access thanks to its intelligent locking system. The new locations with ‘smart rental garages’ are the Doppl Schule bus stop in Leonding, MS Langholzfelde in Pasching, Pasching Town Hall and the Kirchberg-Thening municipal office. KEM Kürnbergwald is thus following the example of Mödling and Spittal an der Drau, where smart rental garages have also been put into operation (article here).
Mobile Velovio KONA canopy keeps Salzburg bike racks dry
With the Salzburg bike rack, Cycle Competence member Velovio already has a top product on the market that can be found throughout Austria. The rubber strip for scratch-free leaning and seating are the special features of this innovative bike rack. Now the KONA bike shelter protects parked bikes in all weather conditions! It is easy to install and ideal for mobile use.
The KONA does not require a foundation, has adjustable feet at each corner and features a gutter, downpipe and free-hanging chain for water drainage. The roof covering is made of laminated safety glass, and the support structure and side panels can be powder-coated on request.
Double Eurobike Award 2025 for VELLO Bike
The Eurobike Award is considered one of the most important international innovation awards in the bicycle industry. The jury evaluates submitted products according to design, functionality, sustainability and market relevance. Cycle Competence member VELLO Bike achieved a double success: Both the ultra-light VELLO SUB Titan e-cargobike with maintenance-free 3X3 Nine hub gears and the newly developed SUB 360° Reflective™ accessories with convertible top and cargo bags were honoured with the EUROBIKE AWARD 2025.
The international jury of experts has thus recognised two VELLO innovations that make urban transport cycling easier, safer and more comfortable. With a weight of just under 25 kilograms, the SUB Titan is one of the lightest e-cargobikes on the market. The model has been successfully tested in the demanding EFBE-TRI test procedure and is certified for a permissible total weight of 210 kilograms.
KTM innovations: e-bikes, gravel and road bikes in focus
Cycle Competence member KTM Bikes presented its consistently developed portfolio at this year’s Eurobike trade fair. KTM is particularly strong with its new e-bikes, a completely revamped gravel range and innovative solutions for urban areas. KTM is responding to the gravel boom with a completely new development: the Gravelator series, which replaces the previous range. With a total of twelve models, KTM covers the entire spectrum from solid entry-level bikes to highly sporty racing machines.
The new practical storage solution on KTM Carbon Gravelator bikes makes optimal use of the frame.
