Cycle Competence Webinars become an online academy!
Several webinars under our motto “This is cycling!” have been held by our platform members since the beginning of the webinar series in 2021. To make this wealth of knowledge more accessible, we have compiled the individual webinar presentations into an archive: the Cycle Competence Academy! It is available on YouTube and on our new overview page “Akademie” in german.
It all began with the Online Cycling Summit 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to hold the Austrian Cycling Summit in 2021. To provide a safe and accessible alternative, Cycle Competence members stepped in and organised a one-day online seminar on April 12, 2021. This marked the successful start of a series of webinars that continued in the autumn of 2021 and has been ongoing until this year. The series was opened by a video message from Federal Minister for Transport Leonore Gewessler.
The topics covered during the Online Cycling Summit ranged from the basics of cycling infrastructure to modern bicycle parking, funding information, and comprehensive planning knowledge. These topics included discussions on what safe separation or conflict-free mixing of bicycle traffic entails, why a good network plan is essential from the start, the role of cycling data, and insights into the practices in the Netherlands. Many Cycle Competence members contributed their expertise to these discussions.
In the following years, new topics were introduced, popular topics were revisited, and most importantly, important updates were explained, particularly the reform of the RVS planning guidelines for cycling. From all the webinar recordings, we have now selected the presentations that remain current or timeless and made them available online in an organised manner. New webinars will be added continuously.
The Cycle Competence Academy is available 24/7
The Cycle Competence Academy offers 16 presentations, each lasting about an hour, which include the Q&A sessions from the original webinars. You can find and explore all the presentations here in german: Radkompetenz-Akademie
The archived recordings are also available on Cycle Competence Österreich’s Youtube channel. Each webinar in the published archive represents a snapshot at the time of the presentation. In total, they already provide nearly 16 hours of continuous education. Feel free to browse through them!
